Astone Man caught the eye last time out and looks worth a bet at 9/1 in the 8.15 at Chelmsford today now stepped up in trip.
That run came at kempton oevr 1m where he finished seventh of 15 to Solveig’s Song. He was in the rear and seemingly struggling three from home but then stayed on well to be nearest at the finish and beaten 7 3/4 lengths off a makr of 55.
Tony Carroll’s four-year-old did all his best work at the finish and it was an improved effprt which suggested he was crying out for a step up in trip.
He gets an extra two furlong to tackle in this and that should be right up his street. Astone Man is also able to race off 2lb lower and having started life off in handicaps off 64 is now able to race of just 53.
That looks a rating which should enable him to be very competitive and he is also lightly raced for his age and open to some improvement.
With Tom Marquand in the saddle for the first time Astone Man makes plenty of each-way appeal at the odds on offer.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-wau Astone Man (9/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
