The big betting race of the day and Red Avenger makes plenty of each-way appeal at 22/1.

Ed Dunlop’s colt landed a 1m nursery here 12 months ago and has shown progressive form this season, slamming Broughton by 3 lengths on quick ground over 1m 2f at Haydock before finishing runner-up in two competitive big field handicaps.

In the first of those he stayed on well to be beaten 6 lengths by the well-handicapped  Maputo off a mark of 96, and the winner has gone on to score in listed and Grouop 3 company on his next two starts so he was far from disgraced in trying to conecede him 1lb.

That was followed by a cracking second of 13 to Broughton at Goodwood where he went down by just 3/4 of a length off a mark of 95, and he was then far from from disgraced last time out in a Group 3 at York when fifth of 7 to City Style where he held every chnace until weakening inside the last to be beaten just over 5 lengths and had a tough task at the weights.

Although he now has to run in this off a career-high mark of 100, that should not be beyond him judged on his last two runs and conditions look ideal for him in this.

The fact that he has winning form over 1m 2f is a big plus in my book as this 1m 1f contest is likely to be run at a searching end-to-end gallop, and he will relish the quick underfoot conditions.

I also think that the big field will suit and that he is at his best when there is plenty of pace to chase and he can be delivered late when others have cried enough.

He also has a good looking high draw in stall 34 from where his jockey Gerald Mosse should be able to drop him in behind the pace on the stands rail, and everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Red Avenger (22/1 bet365, Stan James – BOG, 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4,5)
