Character the Chosen one at Catterick

Chosen Character has slipped to a handy mark and looks overpriced at 14/1 in the 2.45 at Catterick now that he has his ideal conditions.

Tom Dascombe’s gelding has run consistently well since landing a brace of handicaps last May and made a highly encouraging reappearance when staying on well to finish a never nearer fifth of 13 to Solar Spirit at Catterick over 7f earlier this month.

He then stayed on well to finish third of 15 to Flying Applause on unsuitable soft ground on his next start at Pontefract where his cause was not helped by him getting hit on the head with a rivals whip.

The four-year-old was then surprisingly dropped back down to 6f for his latest start at Thirsk, and found himself outpaced before keeping on at the one pace to finish 7th of 13 to Secret City.

He is now upped back to 7f, a trip which saw him register a wide margin success over Prince Of Burma at Haydock last season on good going when rated 70.

The son of Choisir followed up that win with a success over a mile at Pontefract on good-to-firm ground off a mark of 76, and is now running off 5lb lower.

That gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective – especially now that he has his optimum conditions.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Chosen Character (14/1 Hills – BOG)
