Charcor looks on a handy mark and worth an each-way punt at 22/1 in the Irish Lincolnshire at Naas today (4.10). This Jessica Harrington trained five-year-old came good at the second time of asking when keeping on strongly to beat Mazzuri in a seven-runner affair at Gowran Park. Charcor then ran very well in a rated race at Killarney when second of eight to Monkeylou where after losing vital ground when being slowly away he quickly found himself playing catch-up with a mountain to climb. It was to his credit that he responded generously to his riders urgings and finished strongly to be beaten just 1/3 a length. Charcor was gaining hand over first at the finish and, given how the race panned out, it was an fine effort off an official rating of 93. Charcor was also far from disgraced on handicap debut when a seven length 13 of 21 to Kenya in the Irish Cambridgeshire off the same rating or when fifth of 16 on his final start of the campaign at Tipperary. He now returns to action having been eased a further 3lb in the weights and is now able to race off a career-low rating of 86. makes him look a leading contender at the weights and after just six starts he looks open to further progression having looked far from the finished article last year.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Charcor (22/1 Ladbrokes – BOG, paying 1/5 odds 5 places)
