Given his proven form at the track Bun Doran makes plenty of each-way appeal at ? in the 2m Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap (4:50). This Tom George trained seven-year-old has won two of his 11 starts over the larger obstacles and also posted some solid efforts in defeat to make the frame on five occasions. They include an excellent sixth of 20 to Tully East in the Listed 2m 4f Close Brothers Novices’ Chase at this meeting in 2017off a mark of 139 and a fine 4 3/4 lengths third of 14 to Double W’s in the Grade 3 Red Rum Handicap Chase at Aintree off the same rating. Bun Doran also ran very well on return to action last season when a 1 1/2 lengths runner-up to Gino Trail here off 139. He now has to race off 10lb higher as a result of his runaway success over course and distance in the BetVictor Handicap Chase back in November. After racing keenly on the heels of the leaders, he took up the running three from home travelling powerfully in the hands of Paddy Brennan and then quickened clear to easily beat Movie Legend by eight lengths. Movie Legend is unbeaten in two subsequent starts whilst the third home Peppay le Pugh has also gone on to bag a brace of successes. That gives the form a solid look and Bun Doron showed that his current mark was not beyond him last time out at this venue when a 3 1/2 length runner-up to Ozzie The Oscar. He has since been given a break and saved for this and that looks a shrewd move as he has a good record fresh.
