Annie Power is a worthy odds-on favourite on the pick of her for in the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham today (4.00), but she has not run for 311 days and at the odds on offer L’Unique looks worth an each-way play at 20/1.

The Alan King trained six-year-old has won 4 of her 13 starts over the obstacles, including a Grade 1 at Aintree, and is a spring horse who needs good ground to be seen to maximum effect.

She gets that for the first time this season this afternoon after not shining in two starts, and ran a cracker to finish third to Quevega in this last year.

L’Unique got outpaced three from home before staying on to hold every chance at the last, and kept on well on the run-in until being unable to find any extra close home.

She finished just 3/4 of a length behind Glen’s Melody yet can be backed at more than three times that rival.

L’Unique is also closely matched with 10/1 shot Polly Peachum who beat her by 5 lengths at the track last April in receipt off 6lb and they now meet on level weights.

The selection also comes into the contest a fresh horse and at 20/1 looks overpriced judge on her run in this 12 months ago.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way L’Unique (20/1 BetVictor, Coral, Paddy Power, Stan James – BOG)
