Eddystone Rock has been given a chance by the handicapper and makes plenty of appeal at 15/2 in the 2.15 at Ascot today.

John Best’s six-year-old was last successful at York 12 months ago when beating Titi Makfi by a short-head in a hot 20-runner handicap and is now able to race off 2lb lower and having shaped nicely in two of his four starts this seasson.

In the last of those over course and distance at the Royal meeting in June he finsihed ninth of 17 to the progressive Dash Of Spice in the Duke Of Edinbrugh Stakes.

After being steadied at the start and dropped in from a wide draw, Eddystone Rock found himself with plenty to do but finished off the race strongly to be beaten 7 3/4 lengths at the line.

Given how the race panned out it was a solid effort and one which suggested his time was near and this is easier.

He has also since been dropped a further 2lb and Eddystone Rock and with Pat Cosgrave in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Eddystone Rock (7/1 bet365 paying 1/4 odds, 7/1 Betfair, Coral, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes)
