In the 2m Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle that brings the fabulous four-day meeting to a close (5.30), Dallas Des Pictons looks ahead of his mark and is a string fancy at to land the spoils. This six-year-old is trained by Gordon Elliott who saddled Blow By Blow to land the spoils 12 months ago. Like that one, he is owned by Gigginstown House Stud and has the services in the saddle of Donagh Meyler. Dallas Des Pictons has improved in each of four outings and ran a cracker in the second of those when keeping a three length second of 16 to City Island over 2m at Leopardstown. The winner landed the Grade 1 Ballymore Novices Hurdle here earlier in the week off an official rating of 147, so that gives the form a very solid look. He then bolted up over 2m 4f at Punchestown by 10 lengths in a 15-runner maiden hurdle after which he was allotted what looked a lenient opening handicap mark of 130. Dallas Des Pictons duly took advantage when landing a competitive 12-runner affair over 3m at Leopardstown where e stayed on strongly when pressed to beat Calie Du Mesnil by a neck. I thought he was value for more than the winning margin, so although he now races off 10lb higher.it may not be enough to stop him going in again given his upwardly mobile and unexposed profile. A revised rating of 140 may still seriously underestimate his ability given based on his run beyond City Island and he rates the best bet on the card.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 5pts win Dallas Des Pictons (7/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
