LONDON COULD be set for the hottest day of the year on Friday according to bookies Ladbrokes.

The bookies are offering odds of just 2/1 that this Friday is the hottest day of the year to date whilst the nation enjoys one of the latest summers on record. It’s 5/1 that Friday is the hottest September day in history and 66/1 the mercury surges above 100′.

And should the temperatures soar the bookies think that consummate professional Hugh Edwards might even present the news without a tie at 100/1. It’s 33/1 his rival newsreader John Snow adopts a casual approach on the Channel 4 show.

Looking ahead, it’s 66/1 that we have a BBQ Christmas and the temperature soars over 20c on Christmas Day, and 6/1 that we get an Olympic heatwave next summer (that the temperature in London his over 100′ at any time during the games).

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’ve never known odds as short as this for a September day to be the hottest of the year. After the mild summer it’s a real possibility and if Edwards loses the tie we’ll be in trouble.”

He added: “The odds also suggest that the mercury could soar at the Olympics next summer.”
