Rising Belfast bantamweight Ryan Burnett has landed a slot on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s next bout at the city’s Odyssey Arena on April 4.

Burnett was due to fight this weekend on a bill in Dublin but had to withdraw due to a hand injury, so was delighted to say the leasted when the opportuntity arose to fight on friend and idol Frampton’s bill.

“It’s always great to be back in Belfast because, at this stage in my career, it’s the place where my fans are and the best place to get new people to follow me,” Ryan, who is trained by Ricky Hatton, said.

“I had a great response from fans when I boxed at the Odyssey last time and hopefully the same group of people will come out and see me again.

“I think I’ve come on leaps and bounds since turning over to the professional game and I’ve learned a lot from Ricky so I hope to show people what I can do in April.”

He added: “I love being on the same bill as Carl Frampton. He’s someone I look up him to because he started where I am and he comes from where I come from. I always think to myself if he can do it, then I can too.

“Everybody in Belfast likes Carl, he has both sides of the city coming out to support him and one day I hope to be seen the same way.”
