Forgotten Gold has been given a big chance by the hadnicapper and makes plenty of appeal at 8/1 in the 1.55 at Ludlow today now eased in grade.

Tom George’s gelding has not won since landing a novice handicap chase at Market Rasen back in April 2013 off an official rating of 133 but has run a number of solid races to make the frame off higher marks in handicap company.

They include a solid 2 1/4 length runner-up to Firebird Flyer over course and distance last February off 135, and he now meets that rival on 11lb better terms.

Apart from th eimmediate run after that effort, Forgotten Gold has been campaigned in class 2 company since and ran a blinder when a short-head runner-up to Mon Parrain in a decent contest at Cheltenham last April off 137.

The nine-year-old got put up to 142 after that effort and has subsequently failed to trouble the judge in four starts.

However the assessor has been quick to cut him some slack and he now drops down into class 3 company off a mark of just 134.

That makes him dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form, and he has shaped on his last two starts as if he could be on the way back without being unduly knocked about.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Forgotten Gold (8/1 Coral, William Hill – BOG)
